Q. How early should I check my bags in for my Delta flight?


The general time to check baggage includes:


  • At the Airport- 2 hours before departure
  • Min Check-In- 30 mins before departure
  • Min at Gate- 15 mins before departure

  • However, the timings vary between domestic with checked bags, domestic w/out checked bags, On the intl-bound flight, of different cities. So, it is advised to check the timings before boarding the flight.


    Delta Flight Booking Assistance


    Booking Seats on Delta: Delta will no longer block middle seats starting May 1, 2021. When Booking your flight and during check-in, Delta seat maps allow you to view, select and change your seat. Seats with an occupied label indicate that another passenger has already occupied it.


    Basic Economy:: Please remember that Basic Economy does not offer refunds or upgrades at any time. Those traveling solo or who have set travel plans may benefit the most from Basic Economy. Understand the restrictions that Basic Economy has so you can determine whether you would benefit from it.

    Delta Flight Changes & Cancellations: Delta allows you to cancel or change your flight online up to 24 hours before departure in case your plans change. Please check My Trips on Delta before your travel date if you need to change your flight(s). If you need assistance cancelling or changing a flight, please refer to the instructions at Delta.com. In addition, there may be certain tickets for which changes are not permitted after the 24-Hour Risk-Free Cancellation Period has expired. In case of a change or cancellation to a ticket you purchased from a third-party travel agency, please contact your travel agent directly for assistance.


    Cancel Your Flight: Changes in travel plans? You can cancel or apply for a refund if your ticket is refundable. Also, find information on 24-Hour Risk-Free Cancellation. To cancel your flight within 24 hours, contact the customer support team. If you cancel your Main Cabin or higher tickets before departure, they will retain their value. Please check your Basic Economy ticket to see if you can cancel your ticket prior to departure and receive an eCredit.


    Cancel a Non-Refundable Ticket: In some cases, you will have to pay a cancellation charge if you purchased a non-refundable ticket. Any balance remaining will be provided as an eCredit that will be applied toward the purchase of another ticket.


    Cancel a Refundable Ticket: You can apply for a refund if your plans change and you booked a refundable ticket. Just make sure you cancel or change your flight before you depart.


    24-Hour Risk-Free Cancellation: Risk-Free Cancellation is a part of Customer Commitment for customers who book directly on delta.com or through the Fly Delta app. Once you've purchased an eligible eTicket, you have up to 24 hours after Booking to cancel it with no penalty. When a ticket is canceled within 24 hours of purchase, Delta will refund the purchase price, however some banks and credit card companies may hold funds on the card. Please contact your issuer to find out more.


    No Show Policy: Plans can change at any time. In that case, please cancel or make changes in My Trips or the Fly Delta app before the flight departs so that the value of your ticket remains. Any tickets purchased after March 31, 2021, that have not been shown up for a flight, which have not been changed or cancelled prior to departure, will be forfeited, and all remaining flights on the itinerary will be canceled. It should be noted that Basic Economy tickets cannot be changed.

    1. What if I did not purchase my ticket via delta.com but through a third-party travel agency?


    Whenever you need to change or cancel a ticket you have purchased from a third-party travel agency, please contact your travel agent directly.


    2. I purchased Basic Economy; can I change or cancel my flight?


    Basic Economy fares and tickets purchased directly from Delta are eligible for the 24-Hour Risk-Free Cancellation policy. In this case, you have up to 24 hours after Booking to cancel your ticket without any fees and receive a full refund.


    For flights originating in North America, Basic Economy tickets cannot be refunded or changed. For added flexibility, you can cancel your Basic Economy ticket to receive an eCredit minus a cancellation charge*, and apply the remaining value towards a future Delta flight.


    The Basic Economy Award Ticket is also non-refundable and non-changeable; if you cancel your ticket for a fee, that fee will be deducted from the value of your ticket, and the remaining monies will be credited back into the SkyMiles account.


    Tickets Purchased On or Before April 30, 2021


    You may make changes or cancel your ticket if you purchased it under COVID-19 travel waivers prior to April 30, 2021. These tickets are not subject to cancellation or change fees.

    3. I am changing my flight, why am I still being charged?


    Despite the fact that Delta no longer charges a change fee for tickets Main Cabin or higher departing from North America, it may happen that your new flight costs more than your original one. In such cases, you would be charged for the difference in price. Basic Economy fares, however, are non-changeable and non-refundable. A cancellation charge will be deducted from the value of your ticket in case you cancel your Basic Economy flight in 2022. An eCredit may be available if you cancel the flight.


    4. What happens if my new flight costs less than my original flight?


    In the event that you select an alternative flight that is less expensive than your original flight, you will receive a credit for the difference, which you can use on a future flight.


    5. Can I request for a refund if my flight has been cancelled or significantly delayed?


    In keeping with Delta's long-standing policy, should your flight be canceled or delayed significantly, the airline will first try to rebook you on an alternate flight, if there is one available.


    If the airline is unable to provide an alternate flight and cancels your reservation, or if you want to cancel the alternate itinerary that has been selected for you, you have a few options:

  • The amount of the ticket can be redeemed as an eCredit.
  • In the event you prefer, you can have your original payment method refunded

    For the following scenarios, these tickets cannot be changed online. It is recommended to contact Delta Customer Service. If your tickets do not fit into the scenario below, you may explore your options in My Trips.


  • Tickets that have been upgraded using miles or certificates
  • An adult traveling with an infant in arms
  • Tickets that are sold or ticketed by another airline – generally, this means your flight number will start with something other than "DL", except for SkyMiles Award Travel operated by a Delta airline partner.
  • If you would like to book your new trip, but do not yet see your Delta eCredit or are having issues Booking on delta.com, please have your old ticket number set aside when you contact Delta Customer Service. Tickets are identified by a 13-digit number beginning with 006. A copy of your emailed receipt indicates your ticket number.
